Welcome to the "Alomes", a delicious new flavour, and the family after whom it's named. Using the finest Tanzanian cocoa beans, organically grown and fairly traded, also personally sourced. Finely stone ground in the craft skills of Ethicoco, we combine it with powdered organic baobab fruit. Biting into the dark 70% chocolate, taste the notes of rum and raspberry in the cacao, before the sweetness of the baobab creeps in to finish.
I've had this idea for a while but it's taken me a minute to get myself organised and make it.
The story behind the chocolate: 2 years ago, travelling through west Africa I met Tchamoboyo "Mark", staying with him, his wife Charity and "Le Destructeur" Elyakim, a fab little ball of energy who is their little boy.
He showed me such grace, kindness and with the biggest open heart, they took me in as family, taking me to explore parts of Togo most yt ppl don't get a chance to see. Named after them, baobab was chosen because of the juice Mark would always present me with; delicious and oh so nutritious!
Most people don't know this but Togo has been subject to an ever increasing authoritarian regime, the same dynastic government for generations now, and things are only getting harder. With the growing risk to anyone that speaks out or expresses dissidence, anyone would wonder why the US hasn't stepped in for regime change (❌🛢️🤔).
I've wanted to do something for Mark since I left, for example, looking at all sorts of options, and this is something small I can offer. He does so much for his immediate and surrounding family, is a big part of his local community too, and has been struggling to find meaningful long-term work. So for this small batch, with each £10 bar, £4 will go to Mark and his family. Once all are sold I'll arrange to transfer and will cover all fees personally. It's not going to be a huge dramatic change, but sometimes even the effort and thought can mean even more.
So claim yours now and delight in the delicious craft chocolate with goodness at its heart 🫶🏽
